Freedom Guard Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I purchase TriStar’s Freedom Guard?
Freedom Guard offers service members industry leading coverage. We have what you need to get back on the road quickly: roadside assistance, towing, a rental car, direct payment to the repair facility of your choice, and PCS/trip interruption! In addition to all of these great protections, Freedom Guard will be there for you when you return from a deployment. Freedom Guard will extend the term of your contract for the length of your deployment, one time, up to 12 months as long as mileage limit has not been passed.
How does Freedom Guard work?
Vehicle service contracts are often mistakenly referred to as “extended warranties,” “car repair insurance,” or “breakdown insurance” by customers. In actuality, it’s a contract between you and TriStar, under which TriStar agrees to pay your repair facility for covered repairs. You buy and own your Freedom Guard vehicle service contract for a single fee and then TriStar pays for all covered repairs for the life of the contract.
When should I purchase Freedom Guard coverage?
Freedom Guard is the least expensive to purchase early in the life of your vehicle, even for the same length of coverage. It’s actually less expensive to buy coverage up to 100,000 miles when a car is new or nearly-new than it is to add 40,000 additional miles to a car that already has 60,000 miles on the odometer. And you’re not paying for double coverage if Freedom Guard’s coverage is in place during the manufacturer’s warranty. TriStar considers that coverage when rates are set. Plus, it supplements your manufacturer’s initial warranty* with benefits like PCS/trip interruption and more.
How much do TriStar Freedom Guard contracts cost?
Like insurance, the cost of a Freedom Guard contract is directly related to the type of car you own, how long it has been in service, and what deductible and plan you select. Freedom Guard may be included in your vehicle purchase financing.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
Of course there is. Freedom Guard has a 30-day full money-back guarantee (provided there are no claims). After 30 days, upon your written request, TriStar will refund the pro-rated unused portion of your service plan. Contact your selling agent for details. *See contract for specific state rules and regulations.
What parts and service does Freedom Guard cover?
Several plans are available, from comprehensive coverage that covers everything but a small list of “exclusions”, to basic powertrain protection.
Is my car, truck, or SUV eligible for coverage?
Coverage is available on current model year vehicles through nine previous model years, with up to 150,000 miles at the time of vehicle purchase.
Do I have to wait for reimbursement on my repair claim?
No. TriStar Freedom Guard pays the repair facility directly.
How are repair claims processed?
Bring your car and your Freedom Guard vehicle service contract to a licensed repair facility. The mechanic will call TriStar for authorization before work is performed, and if it is a covered claim, TriStar will pay the repair facility directly on your behalf by credit card.
Where can I get my car repaired?
Freedom Guard vehicle service contracts are welcomed at virtually every repair facility in the U.S. and Canada, as well as at all TriStar dealerships with a service facility. We also extend this coverage to any repair facility located on post anywhere in the world! If you are relocated to a new duty station, Freedom Guard will assist you in finding a repair facility in your area.Remember, the dealership where you purchased your vehicle is often the best option for your repairs.
I’d like to modify my vehicle. Will Freedom Guard cover these modifications?
Probably not. A good rule of thumb when considering modifications of any type is that if it voids the manufacturer’s warranty, it will void your service contract. Keep this in mind when buying your vehicle as well. If you are buying a modified vehicle, it most likely cannot be covered by a service contract.
My check engine light is on and my temperature gage says my engine is hot. Now what?
STOP THE VEHICLE IMMEDITELY! Don’t risk further damage and possibly voiding your service contract. Call Freedom Guard to assist you in getting your vehicle towed to a repair facility. Once at the shop, give them a copy of your Freedom Guard coverage and the shop can take it from there. If you need a rental, contact a licensed rental company to coordinate a vehicle. Remember to ask for their lower insurance or warranty rates. Freedom Guard will reimburse you for up to $60 per day for five days.
